Sitka Tourism Best Management Practices (TBMP) Program
About the Program
The Sitka Tourism Best Management Practices (TBMP) Program is a voluntary initiative designed to promote responsible tourism that respects the community, cultural heritage, and environment.
Modeled after successful programs in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway, Sitka’s TBMP is a collaborative effort between tour operators, cruise lines, transportation providers, retail businesses, and local agencies. The program works to address community concerns while supporting a healthy visitor industry.
By participating, partners agree to:
- Implement best practices in daily operations.
- Train staff on TBMP guidelines.
- Respond to community feedback and concerns.
- Foster positive visitor experiences while minimizing impacts on residents.
Who can participate:
- Tour operators, attractions, retail stores, restaurants, guides, shuttle/taxi services, cruise docks, cruise lines, and any business involved in tourism.
Commitments of TBMP Partners:
- Follow TBMP guidelines and integrate them into daily operations. Address concerns raised by partners, the community, or government agencies in timely matter.
General Practices for Partners:
- Operate legally, ethically, and with respect for the community and environment.
